It has been reported that U.S. film producer Indomina Group and GONZO Studios will be teaming up with actor Samuel L. Jackson for the live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese anime, “Afro Samurai“.
This summer, a scriptwriter and director will be chosen, and the cast will be decided by the end of the year. The film will be shot at Pinewood Studios in the Dominican Republic.
“Afro Samurai” was a manga series originally written by Okazaki Takashi, and was later made into an anime. Directed to people overseas, it is an action story fusing black and samurai culture. After airing on the U.S. cable TV station, “Spike TV“, it sold 500,000 video copies in North America alone. Later, the movie sequel, “Afro Samurai: Resurrection” was made, and won the Emmy Award in the “Outstanding Animated Program” category.
Samuel L. Jackson, who played the voice of Afro Samurai, commented, “I’ve always loved this anime since it made its debut in America. I can’t wait to produce the live-action film with our new partner, Indomina Group.”
