AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu chosen as promotional cheerleader for “Evangelion”

AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu has been chosen as the cheerleader to promote the TV version of “Evangelion Shin Gekijoban: Ha“, which will start airing on August 26th from 9:00 PM on Nihon TV.
Watanabe, who’s known to be a big anime fan, expressed her thoughts on “Evangelion” with, “I think it is a global anime that is still very popular even after it concluded its broadcasting. It is very cool, and I have respect for it.” She continued, “I was drawn by its deep outlook on the world.
Meanwhile, producer Akehi Yuki commented, “This time, as the representative of an ‘Evangelion’ fan, I will have her deliver her overflowing passion from the other side of the screen.
Watanabe’s CMs will come in three versions of 12, 15, and 30 seconds in length, and will air on August 19th after “Meitantai Konan: Senritsu no Gakufu“. Additionally, Watanabe will appear on “Midokoro“, which will air before “Evangelion” on the 26th.

Interviewer: What are your thoughts on “Evangelion”?
Watanabe: I think it is a global anime that is still very popular, even after it concluded its broadcasting. It is very cool, and I have respect for it.
Interviewer: Your feelings on supporting the broadcast?
Watanabe: From this opportunity, I will be happy if people who don’t know “Evangelion”, or don’t normally watch anime will gain a little interest for it.
Interviewer: What do you like, when you did start to like, and why do you like “Evangelion”?
Watanabe: I was drawn by its deep outlook on the world. I think it is wonderful. I started liking it in grade school when I heard the theme song, “Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis”.
Interviewer: Could you comment on your appearances on “Midokoro” and the CMs?
Watanabe: I am very happy to be given such an important role. But, the anime is still very popular, so I’m worried if I’ll be a good fit for it. I will do my best to deliver to both people who like and dislike the anime.
