GACKT appeared as a guest for the “Kenshin Festival” that took place on August 20th and 21st at Jouetsu City in Niigata.
The “Kenshin Festival” is held every year to honor the bravery and influence of the warlord, Uesugi Kenshin of the Sengoku Period. On August 20th, GACKT held “GACKT Live Message Ima Koso Tsutaeru ‘Gi no Kokoro’“, and shared his thoughts about the restoration from the Great Tohoku Earthquake saying, “The will to cooperate, that is Bushido (the code of Samurai), and is the ‘heart of righteousness’ that Kenshin conveyed.”
Additionally, on August 21st, GACKT also participated in the “Shutsujin Gyouretsu”. Wearing an armor on a white horse, GACKT Kenshin led about 700 people around the town, and revived the Kawanakajima Battle at Kasugayama-jou Shiseki Hiroba.
GACKT commented, “This Kenshin Festival is different from before, and holds a great meaning. After the disaster, many people recognized that the ‘heart of righteousness’ symbolizes the beauty of Japanese people’s hearts. What is the identity and qualities of Japanese people?”
He continued, “Instead of the rational ‘which will profit’ way of thinking; the presence and acts of the right at heart, as well as the spiritual strength is what makes Japanese people wonderful. I think we were able to deliver those thoughts. From now on, I want to continue delivering my thoughts as a Japanese, and as a samurai.”
