AKB48 makes a record by taking Top 3 spots on Oricon’s Karaoke ranking

AKB48 has dominated yet another ranking chart!

For the week of September 5th ~ 11th, the girls grabbed the top three spots on the Oricon Weekly Karaoke Ranking with their songs “Heavy Rotation“, “Flying Get“, and “Everyday Kachuusha“.

This the first time in Oricon Weekly Karaoke Ranking’s 17-year history that the same artist landed the top three spots. Other artists usually landed the 1st and 2nd place rankings, but never the full three. Sharan Q set the precedent in 1996 when they became the first group to pull off a 1st and 2nd place finish in the ranking with “Zurui Onna” and “My Babe Kimi ga Nemuru made“.

Additionally, AKB48 has beaten out ORANGE RANGE’s 42-consecutive weeks record of being #1 on the Oricon Weekly Karaoke Ranking with their dynamite hit, “Hana“. AKB48 has been #1 for 47 weeks with “Heavy Rotation”.
