Japan Box Office Report – September 3rd/4th

"Kamisama no Karute" / "One Life" / "Harry Potter 8"
The British flag made it’s way back to the top of the Japanese box office charts, but it wasn’t due to “Harry Potter“. It was actually because of the BBC documentary, “One Life” which caught the attention of most of the moviegoers this weekend.
The documentary made 226,880,350 Yen (2.94 million USD) over the weekend, but since it already opened on Thursday, it already reached 350 million Yen (4.5 million USD) altogether. The original version was narrated by Daniel Craig, but for the Japanese version the audience got to listen to the voices of Matsumoto Koshiro and Matsu Takako. Rock band Mr. Children provided the theme song for the movie.
There isn’t much to report about the other nine movies rounding out the chart.
“Harry Potter” is now through the 9 billion Yen (117.5 million USD), overtaking “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” as the most successful movie in Japan of 2011.
Winnie the Pooh” also made an appearance in the top 10.
Trailers for the new Japanese movies can be found after the ranking!
