Today it was announced that AKB48 member Shinoda Mariko will appear as the wife of shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi, in the upcoming movie “Gal Basara“. Furthermore, it was revealed that the SKE48 members Ogiso Shiori and Kizaki Yuria are also going to play two important characters in the movie.
The full title of the movie is “Gal Basara ~Sengoku Jidai wa Kengai Desu~” and the story is about a group of high school students who suddenly get sucked in by a time hole while watching a Sengoku show together. After the time slip they find themselves right in the midst of a severe battle that happened 440 years ago, during the real Sengoku period. They are forced to grow up and depend on each other, as they are struggling to survive during one of the most turbulent and bloody times of Japanese history.
The two main characters will be played by the two newcomers Arimura Kasumi (“SPEC”, “Hagane no Onna”) and Taketomi Seika (“Umareru.”) Also belonging to the main group of students are – Arai Moe as a gyaru-like classmate, Kaku Kento as your typical wannabe bad boy from school, and Mori Ren as a science geek. For Arimura it also was the first time to challenge a sword fighting scene.
In addition to Shinoda playing the mysterious wife of shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Ogiso is going to play another classmate and history buff, while Kizaki is going to play an important key character and very close friend of the two main characters.
Three more male characters, all three country bumpkins who want to become samurai, are going to support the group. Fans of the two Super Sentai Series “Samurai Sentai Shinkenger” and “Tensou Sentai Goseiger” are going to be pleased to see that those three characters are played by Suzuki Shogo, Soma Keisuke, and Hamao Kyosuke.
Another highlight of the movie is going to be Matsutaka Hiroki’s performance as the infamous Oda Nobunaga.
Sato Futoshi is sitting on the director’s chair for this original thrill ride that is brimming with youthful energy and ambitions. He should be known to fans of AKB48 as the man who directed the drama series “Majisuka Gakuen“.
“Gal Basara” is scheduled to open in Japan on November 26th.
