Japan's Nico Nico Douga Video Site Starts English Beta + Will Stream From Sakura-Con Live
The popular Japanese website Nico Nico Douga launched a new beta website on Monday, featuring an English-language version of its video sharing and commenting service.
Users who have already established accounts on the Japanese Nico Nico website can use the same account credentials to log into the new English site. Users can also create a new account or log in via their Facebook accounts.
Additionally, the website features the text "Join Premium," although the text is not a link. The user settings area provides a link for users to register for a premium membership, which takes the user to a page stating that they are still preparing the premium membership and will announce more details "soon."
Nico Nico Douga will also offer a live demonstration of its video streaming and commenting service at Sakura-Con, which takes place in Seattle from April 22 to 24. Nico Nico Douga had previously streamed live events from America and other countries overseas, but not through its new English beta site.
The streaming site will conduct 23 hours of live broadcasting at the convention, with appearances by Niwango director Hiroyuki Nishimura and Nico Nico Douga's James Spahn. Nico Nico Douga's booth will report on the state of the anime/manga/game fandom, as well as filming designer Sixh's fashion show during the convention.
