S/mileage holds a release event for their first photobook

On October 11th, idol group S/mileage held a handshake event to commemorate the release of their first official photobook, “S/mileage (1)“, at the Fukuya Bookstore in Shinjuku Subnade.
During the event, the seven members talked about memories from the photoshoot and their feelings on former member Ogawa Saki. The photobook features the members in swimsuits, yukatas, and marine attire. It also includes the last memory shots of the four original members.
Member Wada Ayaka commented, “We’ve never gone out together before. However, for our photoshoot in Shinshu, we got to do fireworks and wear yukatas together. It was a good memory.” She also shared that her favorite photos from the book are the ones where they are playing with fireworks. She stated, “We did our best to the point where the fireworks almost touched our feet. We are glistening in the photo.”
On October 16th, the new sub-members will find out if they will become official members of S/mileage. The youngest member Tamura Meimi expressed, “We sub-members did out best together, so we want to all become official members. However, if that is impossible, I want everyone [the 3 original members] to downgrade to sub-members.” Hearing this, Fukuda Kanon laughed as she said, “We were just given a suggestive statement to downgrade, but I think you will be able to go even higher than the original members.”
S/mileage’s first official photo book, “S/Mileage (1)” is currently on sale through Wani Books at 2,100 yen (approximately $27 USD).

S/mileage to announce which sub-member will become official on October 16th

Idol group S/mileage kicked off their concert tour, “S/mileage Concert Tour 2011 Fall ~Gyakushuu no Cho Mini Skirt~”, at the Shibuya C.C.Lemon Hall on September 16th! This was the first concert for the group’s new sub-members, and their excitement shone charmingly on their faces as they revealed their fresh, fun stage.
The excitement in the hall got kicked up another notch after an letter from producer Tsunku was read during the concert. It said, “On October 16th, we will announce which sub-member will become an official member at the release event for S/mileage’s new single, “Tachiagaaru“.”

Regarding Kosuga, leader Wada Ayaka commented, “As reported earlier, Fu-chan withdrew to focus on her health. When she gets well, she will come back to Hello! Pro Egg, so please support her.” Wada continued, “Today, we are seven members, but we will do our best!“.
The girls sang 18 songs including their new single “Tachiagaaru”, a medley from the original members, as well as “Manojyaku” and “Yumemiru 15 sai“, which were sung by sub-members.
The new official member will be announced at the release event for “Tachiagaaru” at the Kanagawa Yokohama Bridge on October 16th.

New S/mileage sub-member Kosuga Fuyuka withdraws due to poor health

It’s only been three weeks since Kosuga Fuyuka was named as a new sub-member of S/mileage. Unfortunately, it’s been revealed that Kosuga had to withdraw from the group due to poor health.
The announcement posted on the official S/mileage website states:
“Thank you for always supporting S/mileage. Due to S/mileage sub-member Kosuga Fuyuka’s poor health being brought to our attention, she underwent a careful examination at a hospital. According to the results of the exam, it was discovered that she has a problem with her blood composition. Due to her severe anemia, she must refrain from exercise and must undergo medical treatment for several months.
It is truly unfortunate, but her activities as a S/mileage sub-member will be cancelled for now, and she will focus on her treatment regimen. After she has completes treatment and her health returns to normal, we plan to have her start again as a member of Hello! Pro Egg [Hello! Project's trainees].“
Hello! Project’s producer Tsunku♂ also commented on the announcement:
“What I was able to say to her was, ‘Please don’t over-do it, and devote yourself to your recuperation.’ When I asked her, ‘After your full recovery, you would be able to continue your lessons as a member of Hello! Pro Egg, but what would you like to do?”, she replied, ‘I want to quickly get better and start over again as an Egg.’
She’s still young, so I would like her to quickly regain her health and start again as an Egg with her wonderful smile.
The newly reborn S/mileage will go forward with the three original members and  four sub-members. Everyone, please cheer for the girls!”

Some more sad news for S/mileage fans. The other day Ogawa Saki announced she would be graduating from S/mileage and Hello!Project on August 27th, and it appears her blog is going with her as well.
A S/mileage staff member wrote, “We have an announcement concerning Ogawa Saki’s blog. Ogawa Saki’s Official blog ‘SAKICHII no MERON wo Gaburogu’ will be closed on August 31, 2011. Thanks to everyone for reading it.”

Ogawa Saki to graduate from S/mileage and Hello! Project

Hello! Project has just announced through their official website that Ogawa Saki will be graduating from both S/mileage and Hello! Project on August 27th. Her final event before graduation will be at the “Uchouten LOVE” live at the Higashi Betsuin Hall in Nagoya.
The website posted comments from Tsunku and Ogawa, which we’ve translated below:
-
Tsunku’s comment:
“Thank you for always supporting Hello! Project and myself.
This is sudden, but I have an announcement for everyone.
Just the other day, I announced five new sub-members for S/mileage,
However, as of August 27th, Ogawa Saki will be graduating from both S/mileage and Hello! Project.
In the beginning of May this year, she informed me,
“I’ve been hesitant for some time, and I’ve discussed it with the staff a few times, but my feelings of wanting to return to a normal junior high student has strengthened, so please let me quit.”
Although she is the youngest of the group, I have relied on her singing skills.
However, right now is the time to be looking towards the future.
As a group, and as an individual member, we need to have a strong desire for improvement.
And as a producer, I decided that holding back a member who is hesitant, and continuing the group with her would not be good for both the member and the group. So I chose to accept Ogawa’s request.
When the group was first formed, I made a public announcement that the unit may increase or decrease in members.
Because there was this case, I hastily announced in June that we would be recruiting new members for S/mileage.
Please forgive me that I wasn’t able to report the details and intentions until now, as there were many terms and conditions concerning the group and the contract.
Again, Ogawa is still an inexperienced student and a minor.
For a working adult, it would be unacceptable to give up their job halfway.
But please take her straightforward feelings into careful consideration, and watch over her warmly.
With that, please continue your favors towards S/mileage.
Please excuse me for reporting through this letter on my own accord.“
-
Ogawa Saki’s comment:
“Thank you for always supporting me.
I, Ogawa Saki will graduate from Hello! Project and S/mileage on August 27th.
After making our major debut last May, I have enjoyed every day as [a part of] S/mileage.
But somewhere in my heart, the real me and my S/mileage self become distant.
I discussed it with the staff a few times, but I was always troubled. I thought that it would be bad for S/mileage if I was hesitant while everyone else was working with all their might, so I decided to return to being a normal girl.
I’m sorry for the last minute announcement.
I do feel sad, but S/mileage’s trademark is to always smile!
I will do my best to finish with a smile until the end of the event on August 27th. The remaining time is short, but please support me!
After I graduate, I want to continue supporting S/mileage with its new members.
Thank you for all of your support until now.“
