Therefore, the eighth and final “Harry Potter” movie easily reclaimed its first place after one week in second. It now broke through the 7 billion Yen mark (91 million USD). “Transformers 3” is back in second place, and “Cars 2” placed third. The ‘tokusatsu’ double-feature came in short below the top three in fourth place.
Studio Ghibli’s “Kokuriko-zaka Kara” finally overtook the “Pokémon” movie with 1.3 times more tickets sold than the previous weekend. Both anime feature films already grossed more than 3 billion Yen (39 million USD).
“The Tree of Life“, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, opened in at seventh place, with an opening weekend revenue of 102,042,600 Yen (1.3 million USD).
Only two Japanese movies opened this weekend: “Amazing Grace“, starring Kubozuka Shunsuke, Miyata Daizo, and Kanda Sayaka; and the third film in the anime series “Towa no Quon“. You can check out their trailers below the ranking.
