Japan Box Office Report – September 10th/11th

"One Life" / "Tantei wa BAR ni Iru" / "Kamisama no Karute"
Japan reclaimed first place on the box office chart with the much-anticipated “Tantei wa BAR ni Iru“.
“Tantei wa BAR ni Iru” is a thrilling crime and mystery movie based on Azuma Naomi’s award-winning novel and stars a very unique duo played by Oizumi Yo and Matsuda Ryuhei. Especially women seemed to be very attracted by the hard-boiled characters and the intriguing story. In numbers this meant 128,800 sold movie tickets and a revenue of over 170 million Yen (2.2 million USD).
The top three from last weekend all had to step down one rank for the new number one. “Kamisama no Karute” already crossed the 1 billion Yen mark (13 million USD), while “Harry Potter” eventually dropped out of the top three.
The Smurfs” also opened in Japan and grossed more than 65 million Yen (850,000 USD) on the weekend.
Transformers 3” dropped down to the ninth place, but just before leaving the top 10 it grossed more than 4 billion Yen (52 million USD). Furthermore, “Green Lantern” barely made it into the top 10.
Trailers for the new Japanese movies can be found after the ranking!
