Today, TBS held a fan event for their midnight drama “Ouran High School Host Club” with the whole cast, including lead actress Kawaguchi Haruna and actor Yamamoto Yusuke. At the event, they also revealed that the drama is going to be made into a movie that is scheduled to open in March of 2012.
The drama and upcoming movie are based on a popular manga of the same name by mangaka Hatori Bisco. The story is a romantic comedy centered around the popular host club of the ‘Ouran High School’, where the female scholarship student ‘Haruhi‘ (Kawaguchi) has to disguise herself as a male host in order to pay for the expensive vase she broke while visiting the club for the first time.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is going to distribute the movie. It will be their first distribution of a movie adaption from a TV drama.
Kawaguchi is already enthusiastic about the movie adaption and commented, “I’m already all fired up as this is going to be my first starring role in a movie. I will work hard once the filming begins and hope that I will be able to show you some new faces you haven’t seen in the drama so far.”
Meanwhile Yamamoto declared, “In the drama we had to be careful not to go too far and I only put in 60% of what I would be capable of, but in the movie, without any restrictions, I’d like to raise the bar up to 120%.”
For the aforementioned fan event, titled ‘Ouran High School Host Club Summer Party‘, they invited 100 fans of the drama to visit the cast at the actual set. They were able to throw questions at Kawaguchi, Yamamoto, and the rest of the cast, and participate in a lottery for some exclusive presents.
